MedLife Ecuador: Project Day
As part of the Service Learning Trip, volunteers also spend a day working on a community project. Local staff and community leaders identify a need at a local school. We arrived during the school's 63rd anniversary celebration and saw the school's students and families enjoying a the festivities and getting ready for a community lunch.

Our project consisted of cleaning and fertilizing the school's cacao plants and fencing in their pond, where they cultivate fish for sale. These agricultural projects provide supplemental income for school, which runs without state or church support. The school director took time away from the celebration to greet us and showed us the school's new cacao processing machinery, which was installed by the school's students.
The rainy weather didn't dampen out spirits and our volunteers completed the tasks with enthusiasm. Of course, they also made time to talk and play with the children present.
